Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia by night
"When the night comes, the starry sky reflects on its surface like in a mirror, and you have the feeling of being in space."
"Women debate with themselves about whether to have kids, whether not to have kids. To me, it was never a debate. I was not going to sacrifice having kids because i thought it might affect my career. I’m going to do them both, one way or another, I’m going to do them both," says Laurie Gilmcher, the 2014 L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards Laureate for North America.
Professor Glimcher is being honored for her discovery of key factors controlling immune response and their role in allergies and in autoimmune, infectious and malignant diseases. She is an international leader in her field, a recognized pioneer who has served as President of the American Association of Immunologists and one of the founding editors of the highly-respected scientific journal Immunity.
